What this result assumes
- Worked on 2026 federal brackets, standard deduction and payroll tax, with your state rate on the whole wage.
- Week and two-week figures are for weeks you work; the monthly figure spreads the year’s pay over twelve months.
- Overtime is not included. Hours past forty a week are usually paid at time and a half, and a temporary federal deduction covers part of that extra pay; neither is modelled here.
- 401(k) contributions, health premiums, tax credits and itemized deductions are not taken out. The take-home pay calculator handles 401(k) and pre-tax deductions.
Set your weekly hours and any unpaid weeks off, so part-time and seasonal work come out right, then see the pay per hour, week, two weeks, month and year.
Methodology

From hourly to yearly
Paid weeks are 52 minus the unpaid weeks you enter, and paid hours are your weekly hours times paid weeks. In the hourly direction, the yearly pay is the wage times paid hours. In the salary direction, the yearly pay is exactly the salary you typed, and the hourly rate is the salary divided by paid hours, rounded to the cent.
Week and two-week figures are for weeks you work. The monthly figure is the year divided by twelve, so it spreads the pay over the whole calendar year, including unpaid weeks. The after-tax hourly figure is the year’s take-home pay divided by the same paid hours.
What comes off
The after-tax line takes out federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and your state rate, in the same order as the take-home pay calculator. Federal tax is charged band by band after the standard deduction, so a part-time wage that falls under the deduction owes no federal income tax, though payroll tax and your state rate still apply.
Nothing else is taken out. 401(k) savings and health premiums are left out on purpose, which keeps “after tax” exact. The take-home pay calculator handles those, and the 401(k) calculator shows what the savings grow into.
Assumptions
- Tax year 2026 federal brackets, standard deduction, Social Security wage base and Medicare rates.
- The standard deduction is taken; itemized deductions are not modelled.
- No tax credits are applied.
- Additional Medicare Tax on high wages is included.
- No 401(k) or other pre-tax deductions are taken out.
- Overtime is not included. Every paid hour is paid at the wage you enter.
- State and local tax is a single flat rate on the whole wage.
- A year is 52 weeks. Paid holidays and paid vacation count as paid weeks.

Common questions
How much is $25 an hour a year?
Working 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, so $25 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year before tax. For a single filer paying a 4% state rate, that leaves about $41,882 after 2026 federal, Social Security, Medicare and state tax, or $20.14 an hour. Change the hours or unpaid weeks above and the figures follow.
How do I convert a salary to an hourly wage?
Divide the yearly salary by the hours you are paid for. A $75,000 salary over 2,080 hours is $36.06 an hour. Pick “Yearly to hourly” above to do it with your own pay, hours and unpaid weeks off. The result also shows what that hour is worth after tax.
How many work hours are in a year?
A full-time year has 2,080 hours: 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. Paid holidays and paid vacation still count, because you are paid for them. Unpaid weeks lower the total, so four unpaid weeks at 40 hours a week leave 1,920 paid hours.
Is overtime included?
No. Every hour here is paid at the wage you enter. Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, covered employees are generally paid at least time and a half for hours past 40 in a week, and a temporary federal deduction covers part of overtime pay. This calculator models neither, so extra hours would raise real pay above these figures.
Is a salaried job worth more than an hourly one at the same yearly pay?
The tax is the same for the same yearly pay. The difference is hours. Salaried roles classed as exempt usually get no overtime pay, so long weeks lower the true hourly rate, while hourly work pays for every extra hour. To see how pay changes after a raise, try the raise tax bracket calculator, and for 401(k) and pre-tax deductions use the take-home pay calculator.
